Every year when Mother’s Day comes around, I think about the same thing. Moms are almost never in the photos. They’re the ones taking the pictures, organizing the outfits, making sure everyone is ready, and holding everything together. And before they know it, another year has gone by and they still don’t have a photo of themselves with their babies.
That has always been the heart behind my Mother’s Day sessions. Not perfect poses or big productions, just a quiet space where you can slow down, hold your little ones close, and actually be in the frame with them. Because this season doesn’t last, and these are the moments most moms don’t realize they’ll miss until the years have already moved on.
In the past, many of my Mother’s Day minis were held outdoors with quick 10 minute time slots. While those sessions were beautiful, the lighting changed constantly and the rushed timing didn’t always allow families to settle in. Outdoor light shifts quickly, and even small changes in sun or clouds can create very different results from one session to the next. Even with careful editing, it made it difficult to create the same consistent look for every family.
Weather was another challenge. Over the years, I’ve had to reschedule outdoor sessions due to rain, wind, or cold weather, and it’s always disappointing for families who have already planned outfits, schedules, and excited little ones. If the past few weeks are any indication, spring weather can be unpredictable, and I wanted to create an experience families could count on without worrying about last minute changes.
This year, Mother’s Day sessions are held in my in home studio here in Gilroy. Studio lighting allows me to create the same soft, even look for every family, without worrying about weather, wind, harsh sun, or early bedtimes. What you see in my portfolio is exactly what you’ll receive.
Sessions are scheduled in a relaxed block of time based on your children’s attention span, typically lasting about 15 to 30 minutes. This allows everyone time to settle in, breathe, and simply be together. Those quiet, unhurried moments always photograph better than anything forced.
Rather than one specific set, I offer a collection of soft, neutral backdrops designed to keep the focus on your connection with your children. When you book your session, you’ll choose your preferred backdrop so everything is prepared and ready when you arrive. This keeps the day running smoothly and allows your session to feel calm and unrushed.
These sessions are designed for families with children of all ages, and the studio can comfortably accommodate up to five people at a time. Grandmothers are always welcome to join, and many families choose to include grandma for meaningful generational portraits. Images that include three generations often become some of the most treasured from the session.
The overall style of these sessions is classic and timeless, so clothing that feels soft and natural will photograph best. Neutral tones, flowy dresses, simple textures, button downs or polos for boys, and classic outfits for little ones all work beautifully. It’s best to avoid bright neon colors, large prints, or anything that competes with the background. The goal is for your family and the backdrop to feel cohesive and natural, allowing the focus to stay on connection rather than clothing.
Each Motherhood Mini Session includes a relaxed studio session lasting approximately 15 to 30 minutes, 10 beautifully edited high resolution digital images with print release, and your choice of backdrop selected at the time of booking. Additional images and full gallery upgrades will be available after you view your proof gallery.
A non refundable retainer of $50 is required to secure your date and time, with the remaining balance due prior to your session. Sessions are now booking through the end of April at my in home studio in Gilroy, California. The studio is open Wednesday through Sunday from 10am to 8pm by appointment only.
If you’re ready to reserve your session, you can use the booking link below or send me a message if you need help choosing a time that works best for your family. Availability is intentionally limited each week to allow time between families, so once the schedule is full, additional spots will not be added. Once these sessions fill, they will not be reopened this season.
